PHILOSOPHY
With Kindergarten Standards reflecting skills children used to learn in 1st grade, Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten are becoming increasingly essential for our children. My goal is to make sure they learn the skills they need to be successful in Kindergarten in a way that is still appropriate for their age and development.
Learning should be fun! Children, especially young children, learn through play. As they face challenges they learn problem solving skills and develop a growth mindset. Play also gives them the opportunity to communicate with their peers and develop social skills to help them navigate friendship and peer interaction.
A child who loves reading stories will have a greater desire to push through challenges as an early reader. We will read books each class and learn story elements such as: setting, characters, main idea, problem, solution, and retelling. Children will participate in engaging activities based on our weekly book, allowing your child to really get to know and love the story.Â
Worksheets have a time and place, but should not be the primary tool used for young children, and are not the only way to develop the small muscle skills needed for writing. Instead, we will use a variety of engaging hands-on activities to strategically promote school readiness. For example, your child will learn to build and shape letters, trace them in sand, and eventually write them with a variety of mediums.
